Remember humor can make any toast better, but stay away from touchy subjects or inside jokes.
The
bride and groom are the focus of their wedding, But there is also a
time for the maid/matron of honor and best man to have their 5 minutes of fame! -
it's called the toast.
Giving the toast is an honor and should be taken
very seriously. Your Friends or Family have chosen you to speak about THEM on their
big day. Keep the Focus on them :)
That's why it's important to write the toast a prior and not on a drink napkin at the bar. Keep it simple and brief, speaking slowly and loudly
enough for everyone to hear. A common mistake is not holding the microphone close enough to you chin.
A wedding is a elegant affair, so keep your toast the same: Avoid bringing up exe's, problems in the couple's
relationship, inappropriate jokes or anything else that could embarrass the
bride or groom.
Where to begin? Your speech may include a few of the Below:
- how you know the bride & groom & why they are a part of your life
- how they met
- a few anecdotes about your life with the couple, such as travel, experiences etc.
- a famous quote that means something to you or them
- advice on the bride & grooms future
- words wishing them well & expressing how you think they're perfect together!
- how you are looking forward to a continued friendship with them
Few other pointers: stand between the couple for the photographer, speak loudly into the mic, don't forget your champagne, and lastly don't forget to raise your glass and actually do the toast!
Once
you've written the toast, read it out loud to yourself & others to hear
how it will sound. Try to memorize as much as you can,
but bring a typed copy with you just in case you get nervous.
Finally, present a copy of what you've written for the bride
and groom.
Hope this helps & Good Luck!
Cher!
